The 3rd Annual Stillwater’s Golf Cup Challenge was held on October 5th and 6th. There was a practice round that had about 8 of the participant’s on October 4th. We once again added two more 2 man teams. The 1st year we had 12 participants, then 16 in 2016 and now 20 in 2017. The team captains were once again Brad Dismukes and Doug Givens and they worked together to pick the teams as evenly as possible. They also set the matches to promote a high level of competition. The Cup teams consisted of a total of 20 participants (10 on each team). Each Cup Team consisted of five 2 man teams. Each 2 man team played a 2 man team from the other team and each hole was worth one point. If a hole is tied than a ½ point is awarded to each team. The teams played 27 holes each day at StillWaters Golf Course in Dadeville, AL.
The participants of the third StillWaters Cup were as follows: Brad’s team included the 2 man teams of himself and Bob Dansavage, John Boone and Dean Phelps, George Sheridan and Ken Dismukes, Bill Gillespie and Hunter Dismukes, Ron Pinckard and Rob Heard. Doug’s team consisted of himself and Bob Gipson, James Petrunic and Lide Denny, Jeff Cox and Jeremy Smith, Russ Thompson and Hootie Gipson and Al Thrash and Tanner Dismukes.
The captains once again paired the matches to promote a high level of competitive competition. After the first day, Brad’s team trailed 64 ½ points to 70 ½ points. The teams went to Copper’s Grill for dinner and Rob (club pro at StillWaters) had a large scoreboard set up on the back porch and a large table set up for everyone who attended. The second day saw Doug’s team continue to pull away to take the StillWaters Cup for the third consecutive year. However, Brad Dismukes and Bob Dansavage won the 2 man competition for the event with 32 ½ points. Lide Denny and Jamie Petrunic finished 2nd in the 2man competition with 31 ½ points and Russ Thompson and Hootie Gipson took 3rdplace with 31 points. Jeremy Smith won both hole 3 and 14 closest to the pin competition on day one. Doug Givens won #3 and Bill Gillespie #14 on day two.
